Tibetans Relocated

The Chinese government is conducting a massive migration of 250,000 Tibetans from their homes to new socialist villages, according to McClatchy Newspapers and the Denver Post.

In an effort to progress the Tibetan economy and expand its socialist reach over Tibetans, about 10 percent of the population are being forced to move from their rural homes into a newly engineered town center. They are being required to make the migration and build a new home with little help from the Chinese government, however the government is spending money to construct modern infrastructure.

Some Tibetans have welcomed the change, while others have opposed it. The Chinese government claims that the move will increase the standard of living for the Tibetans, however human rights advocates argue that it will simply make them extremely indebted.
The average cost of a home is $6,000 and the average income is only $320.
